Cancer pain is among the most complex and undertreated medical problems in India. Studies consistently show that more than 50% of cancer patients in India have inadequately controlled pain — not because treatments don't exist, but because access to specialist pain and palliative care is limited.
Dr. Neeraj K. Dahiya (MBBS, MD, PDCC Pain Medicine, FCPM, CCEPC) and Dr. Anwesha Banerjee (MD, CCEPC, PDAF) are certified in both Pain Medicine and Palliative Care — making Eshna uniquely positioned to provide integrated, expert cancer pain management.
• Direct tumour invasion: Bone metastases, nerve compression, visceral invasion
• Treatment-related pain: Post-surgical pain, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, radiation-induced pain
• Procedure-related pain: Pain from diagnostic or therapeutic procedures
• Unrelated comorbidities: Back pain, arthritis, and other conditions coexisting with cancer
• Celiac Plexus Block / Neurolysis: For upper abdominal cancer pain — particularly pancreatic, stomach, liver, and biliary cancer. A single procedure can provide months of relief.
• Superior Hypogastric Plexus Block: For pelvic cancer pain — cervical, rectal, bladder, and prostate cancers
• Ganglion Impar Block: For perineal and rectal cancer pain
• Intercostal Nerve Blocks: For rib metastasis pain and post-thoracotomy pain
• Epidural and Intrathecal Analgesia: For widespread refractory cancer pain
Q: Is strong pain medication necessary for cancer pain?
A: For moderate to severe cancer pain, strong opioids (morphine, oxycodone) are the standard of care per WHO guidelines. Fear of addiction should not prevent adequate pain relief — addiction is extremely rare in cancer patients receiving opioids for genuine pain.
Q: My family member has been told nothing more can be done. Can you help?
A: "Nothing more can be done for the cancer" does not mean nothing more can be done for the pain and suffering. Palliative interventional procedures, opioid optimization, and home-based comfort care can make a profound difference even in advanced disease.
Q: Do you provide home visits for cancer patients in Delhi?
A: Yes. Eshna provides home-based palliative care across South Delhi, Greater Noida, and the NCR region. Call +91-9811088148 to arrange a home visit.
